Questions and Answers

How long have you been training?

I have been training since I was 8 years.

How long have you had your blackbelt?

I have had my Black belt for 2 years.

When did you get your black belt?

2008 at the age of 12 years.

Who was your first instructor?

Mick Blackwell, then Stuart Kitchener and later on with Billy Brennan And still train with Stuart and Billy.

Why did you start training?

A friend of my mother’s wanted her children to do something to get fit so joined up with Mick Blackwell. Her children lost interest after three lessons but I really loved it and wanted to continue. So went to Stuart Kitchener club in Hadleigh as he was closer to where I live. I didn’t like football or cricket but Karate I just I loved it. I knew this is what I have been looking for to help me with my weaknesses like being shy and very clumsy, no coordination.

Who inspires you?

Billy Brennan, Stuart Kitchener and all the Black Belts that go to the Arena Karate. All their hard work and dedication they have shown me is what inspires me.

What drives you to keep training?

I love the discipline, the focus and determination and with this I can look forward to become a success within myself in the future.

What other sports do you do/have you done?

Rugby is my favourite sport I train hard and I am in the Rugby Team along with swimming. I love athletics.

Who do you know that is still training from when you started?

Janice Brown and Nina Hall.

What advice would you give to someone who wishes to start karate now?

It’s a good way to keep fit and it is fun. It teaches you discipline and gives you a good focus in life.

What age did you start karate?

I started at the age of 8 years.

What are your future goals & hopes?

I want to go to Cambridge University then to RADA and become a well known and established actor.

How often do you train?

3 to 4 times a week.

What challenges have you overcome?

I learnt how to swim 2 years ago as I was very scared of the water and I now I am a very good swimmer. I was very clumsy as a child and very shy. Of course the biggest challenge was getting my Black Belt. I felt personally that is was all down to Karate that has helped me to overcome the fears and gave me strength and energy to improve myself all aspects of sports.

What is your favourite kick?

Heel Kick .

What is your favourite kata?

Koryo.

What is your favourite fighting move or technique?

Sideways block and counter.

What is your top tip for others?

Train, train and train and hard!

What is the best piece of advice you have received?

Train, train and train and practice makes perfect.
