Arena Karate Academy Chief Instructor Billy Brennan and Senior Instructor Andy Cornish headed north last weekend to the British Karate Federation's International Open Karate Tournament in Glasgow. Both Billy who is a WKF world Karate referee and Andy an England referee attended as officials. The competition which took place at the Prestigeous Emirates Arena on the Saturday included both kumite (fighting) and kata competition for the 1,243 competitors.
It proved to be a very long day for officials and competitors alike starting at 8:30am with a briefing and finishing at 10:30 at night! All the dedication and hard work paid off for Andy as he was upgraded from kata judge 'B' to kata judge 'A' at the end of the event - another great result for Arena - Well done Andy!
Photos and results for the competition can be see on the BKF website - our association EKKA came 6th in the medal table winning 4 golds, 3 silvers and 3 bronze - well done to all who took part.
