Following a very successful launch of the new Mirror Judge Kumite system at the EKKA East of England Karate Championships yesterday, Chief Referee for the EKF Dale Gamble, today confirmed his intention to introduce the Mirror Judge system at the next EKF Referee course to help smaller organisations run their events.

"This is welcome news and a 'feather in the cap' for the Arena Karate Academy" said Billy Brennan Chief instructor at the academy. " After the WKF released the new Kumite rules in January this year it became obvious that for some clubs running local competitions would be impossible as the WKF rules require six officials for every match and there simply aren't enough qualifed referees available. I offered to look at the new WKF rules to see if it would be possible to work with just two officials per match but without changing the rules. A difficult task to say the least but with the help of the established team of Arena Referees we have been able to come up with a solution to make the rules work. Of course the bigger competitions and our national championships will always require a full compliment of personel but, at least with this system, grass roots Karate competition can continue to survive".
