8 Arena Karate athletes have been selected to represent Team GB at the WTKA World Championships in Italy.
Esmee has been training with Arena Karate for four years and has become a valued member of both the club and the Arena Competition Squad. During that time, she has progressed to 5th Kyu (Blue Belt) and developed a strong passion for both training and competition. Originally drawn to karate because of the discipline it teaches and the opportunity to be part of a team, those qualities continue to motivate her today.
Through training and competition, Esmee has developed confidence, resilience and a strong competitive spirit. One of the things she enjoys most about competing is the rivalry and sense of achievement that comes from challenging herself and putting her skills to the test.
Her hard work and dedication have recently been rewarded with selection to represent Team GB at both the WTKA European Championships and the WTKA World Championships. This exciting achievement reflects the commitment she has shown throughout her karate journey and gives her the opportunity to compete against some of the best martial artists in Europe and the world.
Over the years, karate has become much more than just a hobby. It has given Esmee the opportunity to travel, compete and build lasting friendships with fellow students. When asked what she enjoys most about being part of Arena Karate, her answer perfectly captures the atmosphere of the club:
"The opportunity to travel and compete along with the friendships I have formed. Everyone in Arena Karate are so welcoming and friendly. My karate family."
Looking ahead, Esmee hopes to continue progressing through the grades, working towards her Purple Belt, while developing her kumite skills, gaining further competition experience and proudly representing Team GB on the European and World stage.
Outside of karate, Esmee enjoys playing the drums, showing the same dedication and commitment to learning that she brings to her martial arts training.
For anyone thinking about entering their first competition, Esmee has some reassuring advice:
"Everyone can compete at a competition, no matter what level you are at. I was scared when I competed at my first one but now I love it."
When asked who has been her biggest supporter throughout her martial arts journey, Esmee was quick to recognise the person who has always been there to support and encourage her:
"My Daddy."
What does karate mean to Esmee?
"Karate is part of my life and part of what I do."
