CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE ARENA STUDENTS WHO COMPETED TODAY! BETWEEN YOU ALL, YOU BROUGHT HOME 27 MEDAL!
Lily has been training in martial arts for five years after being inspired to follow in her brother's footsteps. Since then, karate has become a huge part of her life, helping her develop confidence, determination and a passion for competition.
A dedicated 6th Kyu (Green Belt), Lily enjoys all aspects of training and competition, but what motivates her most is the opportunity to continually improve. Whether she's refining her techniques in training or testing herself in competition, she is always looking for ways to challenge herself and grow as a martial artist.
Lily has trained for the past five years at Caribbean Karate Club under the guidance of Arena Karate's dear friend, 7th Dan instructor Lenny Austin. Through his instruction, support and encouragement, she has developed both her technical ability and her love of karate.
Although Caribbean Karate Club is her home club, Lily proudly represents Arena Karate as part of the Arena Competition Squad. Since joining the squad, she has become a much-loved member of the team, building strong friendships and embracing the supportive environment that competition training provides.
When asked what she enjoys most about being part of Arena Karate, Lily's answer perfectly captures the atmosphere of the squad:
"It's like a karate family. Everyone takes care of you and is really kind."
Looking ahead, Lily has ambitious goals for the future. She hopes to continue improving her competition performances, achieve greater success on the competition circuit and work towards earning opportunities at the highest levels of the sport, including Team GB selection.
Outside of karate, Lily enjoys dancing and is proud of her ability to light up a dance floor just as confidently as she steps onto a competition area.
If she could offer one piece of advice to someone entering their first competition, it would be:
"Be loud! Snap back your punch and be fast. Focus and only care about your opponent and nothing else around you."
When asked who has been the biggest supporters on her martial arts journey, Lily was quick to recognise two very important people:
"My friend Shanique, who always supports and guides me, and my Nanny, who always makes time to take me to all the competitions."
What does karate mean to Lily?
"It means the world to me." 🌍
