CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE ARENA STUDENTS WHO COMPETED TODAY! BETWEEN YOU ALL, YOU BROUGHT HOME 27 MEDAL!
Lloyd has been training in martial arts for seven years and is a valued member of the Arena Competition Squad. Originally drawn to martial arts by the sense of community, the challenge and the opportunity to continually improve, he has become a familiar face both in the dojo and on the competition circuit.
Currently a 4th Kyu (Purple Belt), Lloyd enjoys studying and performing both Japanese and Korean kata, and is always looking for ways to refine his technique and develop his understanding of the art.
While Lloyd enjoys competing himself, one of the qualities that stands out most is the support he gives to others. Whether it's encouraging younger competitors before they step onto the tatami, celebrating a teammate's success or helping build confidence in those around him, Lloyd is always willing to lend a helping hand.
When asked what he enjoys most about competition, his answer perfectly captures the mindset many competitors understand:
"That moment before you step on the tatami, where nothing else matters."
Looking ahead, Lloyd hopes to continue developing his kata and challenge himself against stronger competitors as he works towards competing successfully at a higher level.
One of the things Lloyd values most about Arena Karate is the community. The friendships, support and shared experiences have been a huge part of his martial arts journey and remain one of the reasons he continues to train and compete.
Karate is also very much a family affair, with Lloyd balancing training, work and family life while sharing the experience with his daughter, who trains alongside him.
When asked who has been his biggest supporter throughout his martial arts journey, Lloyd's answer was simple:
"Our Renshi – Stef."
For anyone thinking about entering their first competition, Lloyd offers some straightforward advice:
"Practice until you can't get it wrong, then go and get yourself a medal."
Interesting Fact: Lloyd makes a cracking homemade pizza.
What does karate mean to Lloyd?
"Discipline and dedication."
